Please go back to the old baseplates
There are so many issues with this new road system that I don't even know where to start. Here are the highlights:
1. The roads do no curve
2. The roads are not compatible with baseplates and are not compatible with other buildings built on baseplates (keep in mind that LEGO is still selling buildings that use baseplates)
3. The roads are far more expensive than traditional baseplates, yet they are more narrow and offer less flexibility than baseplates.
4. based on the number of negative reviews, clearly many other LEGO users are not happy with this transition.
LEGO, please go back to selling baseplates and sets that are compatible with the traditional baseplates.

Avoid these at all costs
I've been building up my vast Legoland since 1980, and these road plates stink on ice. They don't mesh with the baseplates buildings are built on. You can't connect them to the baseplates because the road plates have a different height that doesn't line up even if you add flat bricks. They sit half a flat brick higher than the normal baseplates. How do you connect things that do not line up with everything else!?!?!?
I hope whoever came up with and approved these road plates has been reassigned.
If you're still gonna make these, at least bring back the old road plates so we have a choice. Preferably the ones from the '90s that had grass on each side of the road.

Versatile and fun
I am having more fun with these road plates than I expected. A long time fan of the original road plates, I had set my expectations low, knowing that change is hard, but once I cracked the set open and started playing with these, I began having fun. I was able to immediately integrate existing City buildings from the Donut Shop Opening set, plus my own MOC buildings. I also was able to build a bridge with relative ease (see photo). Highly recommended for anybody building compact layouts in a tight space, or for kids who want a total city experience with their existing vehicles and boxes of bricks.

Road plates
Purchased these new road plates for my nine year old who has a substantial Lego city. He was eager to test them out and see how they compare to his other ones.
We quickly realised the lanes aren’t wide enough for a lot of the vehicles to pass each other but it is possible to stick them side by side to make a wide road. The downside of this is you only get the equivalent of one of the old road plates so assembling them this way would become very expensive.
What we did like is the ability to make parking bays and these new plates made the ideal base to build a transport distribution depot.
The accessories you get in the packs, the street furniture and the trees are a welcome addition.

Potentially good idea, overdone execution
In short:
- It is shiny (how often do you see mirror images on the asphalt - so here goes realism)
- Way too small pieces, so it needs something solid underneath (you can forget putting it on a bed or even lifting a bigger chunk)
- Connectivity to sets other than roads is practically the "you can put it next to that"
- Curves are not possible
- Only roads, non vehicular people are literally off road
So, highly variable (in the sense of length of straight roads), but for anything else, highly limited.
For play value, barely better than taking a few sheets of paper and drawing some lines on those.
Will be interesting to see if competitors stand up to fill the gaps this system creates or only the second hand market will skyrocket.

Not worth it
As someone with a city layout, this is a nightmare. I have the skatepark set, and these roadplates dont work with the current modulars or mocs. The only way to properly integrate these roadplates into a city is by raising all buildings up one plate on your current baseplates, and buying extra baseplates and placing these road plates on them. imo, its ripping us fans off. If we were still able to buy the normal roadplates, fine. But i dont want us to spend almost twice the price for almost half the normal product. These are not useful to anyone with an existing city, or even just a street of modulars. Please, just keep selling the normal road plates aswell. This has really made me feel cheated out of money for buying the normal roadplates just to have them changed.

Hopefully it's just Junior Road, otherwise is ugly
At first I though it's just a joke from Lego or just road for junior Lego. But now, when they retired old road baseplate and I can see it better, it's even worse. Looks very ugly, would be OK for Junior, but still. Why the grey tiles connecting to other pieces make road wider? This looks really bad. The idea of 2 normal baseplate high could work for creator theme, but for modular not. Very ugly details... And those big pieces, ugh... Why Lego don't use normal tiles or bigger tiles? Why this zig zag shape of 2 stud high? How to make a solid line on road? How to make a curve? Why 50 traffic sign? What would collector do with dozens of them? Lego, what have you done?! Please, leave this for Junior Lego and make one nicer from smaller tiles for others.

too narrow, too tall
Seriously I don't understand what Lego was thinking when designing the new road system.
While the shiny look is great, they can't be combined with baseplates, so all those lovely modular buildings on baseplates can't be connected. Of course you could use plates instead, but who has so many plates lying around?
Also the Roads are way too narrow... modern 6 stud cars barely fit... the wider trucks don't fit at all.
And all of this with hefty price tag.
