The Amazing 75308 R2-D2
R2 looks amazing ,the features work great and is going to be a fantastic display piece .
It is quite a challenge to build even for me a Lego builder for about 44 years and it definitely did deserve its 18+ rating !
It's not really for young children and novice builders it's a set you could very easily make a mistake on without experience and would be hard to figure out what you did wrong but it's a very satisfying build .
It arrived on the 6th May, a really quick delivery time and It took me approximately 6 hours to finish the build and I enjoyed every minute and it's now one of my favourite Star Wars set .

I absolutely love this lego set. I have been a fan of Star Wars for a long time, and my favourite thing about it has always been the droids and their unique personalities. R2-D2 is a favourite, and this set was perfect for me. It was so much fun to put together! It took me a good while, too. Sometimes I go through lego sets way too quickly, but this one allowed me to take my time and enjoy it. Assembly was surprisingly easy, and even though the frame on the inside had some complicated moving parts it wasn't a struggle. It's even bigger than I expected to be now that it's finished, which was a pleasant surprise. All in all, I think this is a fantastic set.

One of the coolest sets!
I am very impressed with this R2-D2 set. Having been somewhat disappointed in the sizes of the Star Wars helmet series, the size of R2 was much better than expected. A few things that would have improved the set would have been wheels (so you could roll R2 around improving the playability), having the "head" actually attach to the body but still able to rotate 360 degrees, and curved/rounded pieces to build a more domed-shaped "head". Overall, this one ranks in the top 3 Star Wars sets I have.

My Lego R2-D2 makes me smile
What can I say, love lego and the star wars lego for this set alone.
It's perfect the look and details of this set. The leg comes shooting out from the bottom of R2-D2 when you tilt him back. The only thing you do have to make sure you get the correct colours of the interior mechanism the right way round to make it work and yes I wasn't looking and had to rebuild part of it.
It's 330mm high and 200mm wide so it's quite large but not too big.
It now takes pride of place in my display cabinet with my other UCS lego sets.

Beautiful to display, nightmare to handle
I love LEGO and I'm a big Star Wars fan. This set was like the perfect combo of both worlds. The set looks gorgeous in my studio, however I don't think I will ever move it. It is very flimsy and the side panels are a pain to fix. I had to go back to bag 2 to readjust everything.
And no, I didn't make a mistake. The side panels "hang" with pins which are attached to small plates. They detach VERY easily from the large plates. Very painful to fix and they can easily get loose with minimum manipulation. I don't think this was the best design in terms of sturdiness. The play features are there to be used but I'm not taking the risk. It will stay in my shelf forever.

I think the set sacrifices a bit too much aesthetically in order to cram in play features. For example, the head loses some symmetry for the lightsaber compartment and there are two levers that awkwardly jut out the back to open the front hatches. Overall, it's great to look at, but as an Ultimate Collectors Series set, it's primarily a display piece, and I would rather it look good than be filled with play features.

A great build, even greater end result!
Absolutely phenomenal set. As you build, you can actually see the pieces coming together and how it'll work in the end, which is amazing. The head was definitely tricky, I ended up re-doing it several times to get it right and it was definitely more frustrating than fun. The end result is absolutely worth it though!
Pretty good build time, I spread it out over a weekend but it was still almost 4 hours a day spent on this. There were more missing pieces than usual, about 4-5. For every missing piece, there was a very similar piece which was slightly off. Not a big deal though, I already placed the request for replacements. I would highly recommend this set to any Star Wars fan. Who wouldn't want the longest serving lovable droid in their collection!
