Add Your Own Velcro
The shape sorter is great. My toddler loves it. I love Melissa & Doug toys b/c they're hardy and I can save them for years to come (hopefully for grandkids someday). My only recommendation about this toy is that you add your own velcro to keep the lid on. When the child goes to put the shapes in the cube and turns or flips it on its side or upside down, the lid falls off. I just added four small pieces of velcro and viola! Problem solved.

Yes velcro is the answer!
My son has had this for some time now. He's 3 1/2 and quickly learned to take the lid off and just put the shapes in. I agree that velcro is what it needs. I wish I had thought of that before, but now I too will add some velcro.
M&D toys are always my favorite and we have lots of them, but this one has bugged me for some time now. I hope M&D reads these reviews and adds some velcro or a little latch or something (not hazardous of course) to improve their product.

Redesign please
The product information panel should be the bottom panel that slides in and out to retrieve the shaped blocks. This would provide another panel for additional shapes as well as remain secure when rotating the box. As one of the sorting panels is the sliding panel it slides out of the box when turning the box to insert more shapes. This was not well thought out and not up to Melissa and Doug design quality.

Disappointed Teacher from
Flimsy and Splintered
I was given this as a gift for my classroom and it is very poor quality. I only got it a couple months ago and the wood is already separating and splintering. The top slides out too easily and falls out when students turn the box to find the correct shape. Some of the shapes look to similar and students get easily frustrated with it. I love Melissa and Doug, but this product was a dud :(

Great... Until the paint comes off
Baby loved this toy, and so did I until baby had flecks of paint all over her mouth. It's also hard to believe the non-toxic claims when the toys are coming from China.

Alright
My toddler played with this toy a handful of times. He's more interested in playing outside, or tearing up cardboard.
